Rage & Range: The Waistcoat Zone

For an age-old outfit like waistcoat it’s the styling, the innovation in design and the appeal of the fabric that matter the most. Apart from the fit of course!

Vintage in style, or digital in design or maybe a fabric that’s hand-woven, couture or prêt, if you are in touch with the right label and brand, the waistcoat as an outfit knows no boundaries and standard-looks.

At Shanu Chitlangiya, waistcoats form a part of our majority of design collections. The Radha-Krishna collection has Krishna’s stylized art form on the coat, the ones from the monsoon range have colours like monsoon-yellow, there’s one that comes from our tribal stable and it has metallic buttons to complete the look, and there are many such more.

The Fashion trick of all-things Glitter!

A style mantra from Shanu Chitlangiya is that ‘never underestimate the power of glitter’!

Glitter, in you attire (Indian and Western), on your shoes, on your collar, on your eyes, or just anywhere else is the fashion rescuer every girl needs to believe in, and thus own. Just don’t make the mistake of donning it all at once. Here are the 3 ways to get it right:

Sari-editSari-Glitter-edit

  1. For the Indian couture, bling or glitter (sequins, plain glitter, or any other form of bling) goes best with saris. Keeping the borders neatly bling or the blouse sequined with an otherwise overall simple look will make you stand-out for sure. If it is a wedding you have in mind, then lehenga (Indian flowing and voluminous long skirt) is also a good attire to venture into glitter.Skirt-Western-edit
  1. Western wear and glitter are best friends! Have them on your peter-pan collars of your blouse/shirt, on your skirt (with a plain blouse), or have them on your evening gown (with a medium-rise slit, if you’re comfortable).
  2. For your accessories to go bling, your attire should be low on drama. Glitter on your eye-lashes makes you the confident lady in the room. Well, bling in shoes and clutches makes all the girls weak in the knees, so what do we say for that!

So the next-time you are investing in glitter, just leave the worry of changing fashions to the wind. If you like your glitter stylish, eccentric, bold, or very elegant, then you know the designer’s address! You can contact us at: +91 96490 11111 or you can message us in our facebook inbox. Kurta Pyjama: For the elemental male

‘Fashions fade, style is eternal.’ – Yves Saint Laurent

SC LogoWho thought this could be said about the Kurta Pyjamas? The way label SC sees it, it couldn’t have been conveyed by anything else other than the kurta pyjama ensemble. The comfort and earthiness of this outfit effortlessly oozes style.

Everyone has known this combination for traditional occasions and festivities, for a puja in the house, or the likes of a wedding function. Few men would see it as a casual contemporary attire, and therein lies all the difference! The sincerity that it adds to the look of the young, and the elementariness to that of the grown-up male, is the trick not many dress-types can pull off for boys and men alike!

10

The colours, designs and material for this ensemble can be used to convey the occasion or non-occasion type of look. With quality cotton as the most common material for Designer kurta pyjamas, other fabrics like silk, linens, jacquard, brocade etc are variedly used.

Piping

Piping

For the cotton ones, go for a simple full length piping pattern to add to the aesthetics of the look. If the combination is to be worn for a traditional occasion, vibrant colours with some tasteful embroidery can complete your look.

The Draped damsel!

Draping in design terms is a pattern-making technique in which a fabric is draped directly onto the dress form to make a pattern. Speaking in terms of origin, draping in garments was the art of the elite to gracefully arrange the folds of elegant togas.

17

Draping in a Cocktail Dress

The hard-work of the designer goes into developing the structure of a garment design. The garments are draped in sections i.e.: front bodice, back bodice, front skirt, back skirt etc. and only the right side of the garment (when worn) is draped, unless the apparel design is asymmetrical.

Draping Technique

Draping Technique

These are all the details a dresser shouldn’t be concerned with! An elegant and classy drape, requires design techniques, and in its finished glory gives the entire outfit a very fresh look. Not to mention, this style hides a number of sins; it makes you look thinner.

One of the most creative parts of designing, draping, doesn’t come easily especially along with flawlessness.  The outfits, whether Indian, Western, or mixed, with such an element of style would always stand out. On Indian attire it adds class, and on a western one, it spells comfort.

Draping in an Indian Outfit

Let your designer make sure that you feel confident, and ‘yourself’, in the outfit. Otherwise, it wouldn’t work! Choose well-cut pieces to ensure you don’t get swamped by the look.

Winters and Men

DSC_6475.jpg Edited

If women want to turn heads this winter, shouldn’t men be leading this race? We at label Shanu Chitlangiya think that a man’s wardrobe awaits the season! There’s so much to own and experiment when the temperature dips; suit jackets, bandhgalas, blazers, scarves, tweed jackets and so much more.

Maroon Jacket

Everybody knows about the type-of-man-dress drill, but few know about the colours that men can sport or play around with. Trust us, it can make all the difference! One of the warmest colours this winter is the shade of red wine; we are talking about burgundy here. From knitted pullovers, to casual blazers, and even scarves, if you can contrast it smartly, you know the game. The khaki or camel colour, which some might say is drab and over-used, can be taken on a new level with a single or double-breasted over-coat. How you carry it, is how men stand-out amongst the boys. The colour orange, rather its volcano under-tone is to be watched out this winter. A volcano coloured pullover under a blue tweed jacket would do the trick for you subtly.

_NAV5312.jpg Edited

In the Indian wear, burgundy, gold, and navy blue rule the season. As for the details, just know the don’ts! Buying a bandhgala winter jacket with mindless embroidery that could make you wear it less often or much worse, make you look like a groom in somebody else’s wedding, is a bad idea. Also, the Indian genre for the winter men segment is much unexplored, and yet it is the most banal one too. Only trust yourself in the hands of a designer who isn’t afraid to experiment.

Chic Winter Fashion Tips from label Shanu Chitlangiya

SC

It is winter time for the northern India, and fashion time for the ladies! Most of us who like winters to summers is because of the look, rather looks, that we get to put on. Sweaters, cardigans, over-coats, military jackets, traditional coats, woollen skirts and trousers, stockings and scarves, the list just go on.

Wool sweaters with statement knits, with round or cowl necks are to be watched out for! Wear them with a silk-mix or tweed skirt, or even your summer cotton dress to look like the beauty which makes a difference. If you can pick the ideal looking stockings to go with, nothing like it. Come winters, come checks; in coats, shirts, bags and shoes, just everywhere. The trick is to break free of the clichéd look and use the checks to your advantage. By the way, some classic add-ons, like studs in shoes and on collars, blazer-jackets in pop-colours and the quilted bags or boots, are staying put through the winters. Smartly adorn your scarves and stoles to hide the extra flab, if there’s any.

Coming to the traditional wear, quilted coats look extremely classy. So if anybody tells you that freezing yourself through the winters in order to look pretty and elegant is the key, don’t pay attention!

017 Edited

If you get them made for special occasions, some antique embroidery would surely make it a timeless piece that you would proudly pass on to the younger women in the family and it is going to be their prized possession. Remember that, coats for saris and that for suits are different. Barring an exception or two, they don’t make go-with-all apparel.

Designer winter wear in your closet is just priceless! Traditional jackets with ethnic work, chic print blazers and a lot more, depending on your personality and look can be created or put-together at Shanu Chitlangiya.
